The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set new regulations for HVAC refrigerants that will take effect on January 1, 2025…and Alaskan Air Conditioning and Heating has answered the call with new, safe and high efficiency equipment including heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and conventional A/Cs.

Here is what the EPA is requiring:

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP). New air conditioners must use refrigerants with a GWP of 750 or less. This is a significant reduction from the current average of about 2,000 GWP.
  • Phasing out R-410A. Phasing in A2L Refrigerants. R-410A will be phased out in residential HVAC systems and replaced with R-454B or R-32, depending on the manufacturer.

The goal of these regulations is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ozone depletion by using more environmentally friendly refrigerants. The new regulations are expected to improve energy efficiency and they are proving to do so.

So, what does that mean for you? LOWER UTILITY bills for one! And, secondly, you can feel good about doing your part to protect the environment.
