It’s not just postmen and women who deliver our mail that respond in the worst of storms. Alaskan Air Conditioning and Heating is there for homeowners, too!
Summer monsoon storms can cause havoc with your HVAC but it’s likely they won’t cause permanent damage.
HVAC systems are built to withstand all weather conditions including extreme heat, pounding rain, even sleet and piling snow. Still, some weather events can disrupt the smooth operation of the HVAC:
o Power surges can affect the electrical components.
o Power outages can require reset for the indoor unit and/or thermostat.
o High winds can throw debris into the outdoor unit and possibly puncture inside components or block the airflow around it.
o Dirt storms will more quickly clog the air filter. During our seasons of excessive blowing dirt, be sure to change the air filter once a month.
o Hail can pelt a condensing unit outside but rarely will it cause damage to inside components—HVAC are encased in specially designed hailguards.
o Water-clogged system? Not likely. HVAC systems are designed to take a beating from the rain. However, do not place the outdoor unit in an area of your home that is known to flood and keep standing water.
Know the signs of inefficient operation after severe weather. If you suspect damage to the HVAC following a weather events, call the professionals at Alaskan AC and we will inspect and diagnose the issues for immediate repair.
